Golden Gate Castaways: East Meets West In Gold Rush
San Francisco
This is the story of 17 Japanese sailors, stranded at sea, rescued by an
American ship, and taken to San Francisco in 1851. Regarded as the first
Japanese people ever to reach these shores, they had many adventures on the
Barbary Coast. Their story is illustrated with wood block prints (some from the
Asian Art Museum) and historic photographs and drawings. Join Bob Oaks, docent
and author, for this insightful presentation. Free for
