Harker Concert Series - Mirò Quartet

World-Class Chamber Quartet
to Close Fourth Season of Harker Concert Series

San Jose, CA – The fourth season of the Harker Concert Series will come to a
close on March 7 with a performance by the Miró Quartet, one of the world’s
premier chamber music acts.

In the nearly 20 years since they formed at Ohio’s Oberlin
Conservatory in 1995, the Miró Quartet -- named for 20th century Spanish artist
Joan Miró -- have established themselves as a favorite of audiences all over
the world. Recognition for their unique talents came immediately for the group
in 1996, when they were awarded first prize at the 50th annual Coleman Chamber
Music Festival and the first and grand prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber
Music Competition. Further success came at the 1998 Banff International String
Quartet Competition, where the group won first prize and the Piéce de Concert
Prize, which was followed by winning the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 2000.
The Miró Quartet had the honor of being the first ensemble to receive the Avery
Fisher Career Grant in 2005.

The quartet’s career has taken them to several well-known and
prestigious music venues and festivals. In addition to participating in
Carnegie Hall’s Distinctive Debut Series, they have also performed at the
Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Dresden Music Festival, the Kammermusiksaal at
the Berliner Philharmonie and more. A fixture on the festival circuit, the Miró
Quartet performs frequently at Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in
Washington state, Music@Menlo and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival in New
Mexico.
