All the Cool People Take Public Transit on NYE

Caltrain and SamTrans are offering free rides for revelers on December 31.

Caltrain and SamTrans are doing their part to ensure New Year's Eve revelers on the Peninsula get around safe, sound, and on the cheap.

Below are advisories from each agency on the free service, and schedules they'll be providing on Dec. 31. and Jan. 1:

Caltrain:

Regular schedule on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31*

Sunday schedule on New Year's Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1

*Extra service on New Year’s Eve
Trains Depart San Francisco at 12:45 a.m., 1:15 a.m., 1:45 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., or when full, making all regular local stops. Caltrain will be free beginning at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, ending after the last special reaches San Jose.

SamTrans

Starting at 8 p.m. and lasting until 5 a.m., SamTrans will allow passengers to board free of charge on all bus lines. RediWheels, the San Mateo County Transit District’s paratransit service provider, also will offer free rides between 8 p.m. and midnight, when the service closes.
