The Palo Alto non-profit Children’s Health Council presents singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat at the Fox Theatre, performing in a winter benefit concert supporting children and families in the community.

Jazz Under the Stars

Saturday @ 6 p.m. in San Mateo

Visit our roof top observatory and see the moon and Jupiter thru our telescopes, while listening to KCSM Jazz 91 FM. Dress warmly and come by anytime between 6 and 10 pm. Free parking in Marie Curie Lot 5.

Pan-Asian Music Festival

Saturday and Sunday @ 8 p.m. in Palo Alto

Saturday: Asian Masters Encounter the Western Tradition. A master showcase: Yuan Sha, Kazue Sawai, and Ji Aeri join forces with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra to perform three concertos written for guzheng, koto, and gayageum.

Sunday: Generation NeXT in Asian Music: Bay Area Ethnic Asian Ensemble Showcase. A powerful gathering of youth ensembles from the Bay Area demonstrates how young American musicians of various Asian backgrounds are inspired by their ancestral cultures. It includes the California Chinese Youth Symphony (performing on traditional Chinese instruments); Berkeley's Korean Traditional Drumming Ensemble, EGO; and the Sawai Koto Ensemble of San Francisco.

The Charles Dickens Bicentennial Ball

Saturday @ 7 p.m. in San Mateo

Please join us in celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Dickens' birth at The Charles Dickens Bicentennial Ball. After a vintage ballroom dance lesson at 7 p.m., the evening begins at 8 p.m. with a special theatrical performance of "Nancy's Murder by Charles Dickens (Robert Young) complemented by performances by Miss Jenny Lind and members of the Peerless Music Hall. Formal Victorian ballroom dancing, quadrilles, and country dances to the music of Bangers & Mash begins at 9 p.m. Victorian evening dress (1837 - 1870) or modern evening dress is admired, but not required.
