Alleged Would-be Burglars Arrested After Neighbor Calls Cops

Foot-chase leads to arrest near Ivy Lane.

Police chased down and arrested two men who had allegedly tried to break into and burglarize at least one home in Palo Alto on Monday evening.

Around 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Wildwood Lane after police received a report of two suspicious men with flashlights prowling around the outside of a house.

A neighbor had seen the men near the home's side gate, police said.

Arriving officers saw the two men sprinting out of the side yard of a home in the 1900 block of Ivy Lane, just a few homes away from where the concerned neighbor had spotted the suspicious activity, police said.

The officers ordered the men to stop but they ran away, according to police. The officers ran after them and arrested them in the 1900 block of Ivy Lane.

Investigators later found signs of an attempted burglary at the home in the 600 block of Wildwood Lane, police said.

The suspects, Antonio Barajas and Ricardo Hernandez, who are both 19 and live in Menlo Park, were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of attempted residential burglary, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.
Barajas was also arrested for violating his probation. Police said he is on probation in San Mateo County for being an accessory to a felony.
