UPDATE: 6:25 p.m.

The father of the two-week old infant abducted from his home in Sunnyvale this morning has been found unharmed, and his 22-year-old father has been arrested at a checkpoint in Mexico, according to a report by NBC Bay Area. The arrest comes less than 24 hours after an Amber Alert was issued.

Capt. Dave Pitts of the Sunnyvale Police Dept. said at a news conference Wednesday morning that the manhunt for the father, Mesuit Guler of Sunnyvale, began at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"He told the mother he was going to run errands," Pitts said. "And then he left with the child, sending her a text that he would cause harm to himself and the child if police were involved."

Pitts said the abduction appears to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Guler and his girlfriend over his desire to move out of state.

"She did not want to, and then that led to him taking the child," Pitts said. He said Guler had wanted to move "back to New York."

The baby's mother said Guler has friends in Mexico and might be headed in that direction, according to Pitts.

After reports that Guler’s vehicle had been spotted in San Diego, authorities in Sunnyvale were contacted Wednesday by the United States Border Patrol and told Gulder had been arrested by Mexican authorities.

According to the NBC Bay Area report,  Guler was reportedly stopped at a checkpoint in Mexico and questioned by Mexican authorities, who in turn contacted U.S. Border Patrol Agents in Arizona who discovered the warrant for Guler’s arrest.

Guler was arrested on a $1 million warrant that Sunnyvale investigators had obtained during the course of the investigation.
