Chickens, Roosters Die in East Palo Alto Fire
Menlo Park Fire Fighters subdued a blaze that could be seen from Foster City.
Several chickens and roosters perished after trees behind their East Palo Alto chicken coop caught fire and spread this afternoon, a fire chief said today.
Flames could be seen as far north as Foster City, nearly 15 miles from the fire behind a home at 1757 Michigan Ave., according to Menlo Park Fire Protection District Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman.
"There was a pretty good header on the fire, probably caused by the trees burning," Schapelhouman said.

It is not known the number of chickens that died in the fire, nor the cause of the blaze. Crews were called to the single-alarm fire at around 3:50 p.m. and the coop is believed to be a total loss, Schapelhouman said. "Crews did a great job stopping it quickly and addressing the trees and the coop," he said.
