Cops Nab Burglar at JJ&F Market

Suspect entered store through skylight.

A suspected burglar is behind bars Thursday after he allegedly broke into JJ&F market through a skylight, police said.

The break-in occurred Wednesday night at 11:20 p.m., setting off an alarm and drawing police to 520 College Ave.

The suspect was found hiding behind a tree behind the market, where he was detained without incident, police said.

The man, 31-year-old Gustavo Alvarez, of Palo Alto, smashed through the glass of a roof skylight and rappelled into the store using black satellite dish cable, police said.

The store’s alarm sounded once Alvarez entered the store, causing him to free out the rear door and jump a barbed wire fence, where he came face to face with an arriving sergeant, police said.
