Fire in Harker Avenue Home Causes Moderate Damage

Palo Alto Fire crews quickly extinguish one-alarm fire.

A quick thinking resident who saw smoke coming from a light fixture probably prevented more damage to their home Tuesday.

On May 14 shortly after 4:30 p.m., the Palo Alto Fire Department responded to a call on the 1400 block of Harker Avenue. The resident of the home called after seeing smoke emanating from a light fixture on his kitchen's ceiling.

Crews on the first engine to arrive observed smoke in the home. Once inside, they tore down the ceiling to reach the space where the fire originated between the first and second floors.

Crews extinguished the fire quickly with moderate damage to the home. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but the department is reviewing a recently installed wall oven.
