Firefighters Knock Down Kitchen Blaze

Dishwasher may be the culprit.

A small fire ignited Tuesday in a Palo Alto kitchen, prompting firefighters to arrive and extinguish the blaze before it spread to the rest of the house.

Palo Alto firefighters responded Tuesday to a kitchen fire at 871 Lytton Ave. The resident said that she had come home to hear smoke alarms in her house and found the inside filled with smoke when she opened the front door, firefighters said.

The dishwasher was running while she was gone, and she believes it may have been the cause of the fire. Fire Engine 1 was first to arrive and extinguish the blaze.
