Grass Fire Ignites on Arastradero Road

Fire crews quickly extinguish small blaze.

A small grass fire ignited in the Arastradero Preserve in Palo Alto Thursday.

Fire crews responded to a multi-alarm wildland fire at 2:48 p.m. in the Arastradero Preserve near 1530 Arastradero Rd., southwest of Interstate 280, according to Palo Alto Batallion Chief Niles Broussard.

Palo Alto Fire Stations 2, 6 and 8 responded to the blaze, with additional support from Palo Alto police and Palo Alto Park Rangers. Woodside and Santa Clara County fire departments also responded, according to a press release issued Thursday night by Palo Alto Deputy Chief Gordon Simpkinson.

The 2-acre fire was put out approximately 30 minutes after firefighters arrived. Crews used water, hand tools and fire-retardant foam to contain and extinguish the fire, according to Broussard.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
