Gunman Robs Cyclist Near Town and Country Mall

Suspect made off with all victim's belongings.

A man with a gun stopped and robbed a cyclist riding home from work Tuesday night on the bike path behind , police said.

The victim was confronted at 10:30 p.m. by an armed suspect who demanded all of the victim’s belongings, police said. The suspect is believed to be an African American man in his twenties, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, police said. He was of average height and had a black handgun.

The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and handed over his cell phone and some cash before the suspect ran away northbound on the bike path. He then left the path and ran toward El Camino Real once he reached Encina Way, police said.

Police were called by the victim immediately after the robbery and units searched the area extensively, but to no avail.

Nobody was injured in the robbery, police said. Palo Alto Police are investigating the crime and will release a suspect sketch as soon as one is available.
