Labor Day Avoid the 13 Launched

Officers plan to focus on teens who have a high percentage of drunk driving deaths.

 

Labor Day is two weeks from today, but local law enforcement agencies have already launched the Labor Day Weekend “Avoid the 13” campaign aimed at getting drunk drivers off the road.

The Palo Alto Police Department and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office participate in the campaign, along with all other police departments in the county. Officers will pay special attention to the problem of teenage drunk driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one third of all teen traffic deaths involves alcohol.  

The Avoid the 13 campaign typically includes heightened patrols and DUI checkpoints.

The program continues through Labor Day.
