Learn CPR in Downtown Palo Alto Tuesday

Using the beat to the song "Stayin' Alive" the fire department will teach people how to help someone survive a cardiac arrest.

If you have 15 minutes, this training could save someone's life.

The Palo Alto Fire Department in partnership with the American Heart Association will host a "Hands-Only CPR" training and demonstration at Lytton Plaza in downtown Palo Alto Tuesday.

According to the AHA by keeping to the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees and made famous by the movie "Saturday Night Fever," someone can push hard and fast in the center of the chest of a teen or adult and help increase their chance of survival.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by "a trained bystander after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival," according to the AHA. Most cardiac arrests occur in the home and will likely be a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.

At Lytton Plaza located on the corner of University Avenue and Emerson Street there will be 15-minute training sessions from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
