Man Allegedly Batters Police Officer
Police were breaking up a bar fight on California Avenue prior to assault.
A Palo Alto police officer suffered minor injuries early Sunday after a San Jose man attacked him during an attempt by police to break up a bar fight.
Olumide Sosimi, 29, was arrested and booked shortly before 2 a.m. at Club Illusions on California Avenue on suspicion of resisting arrest with violence and battering a police officer, both felony charges, said Sgt. Zach Perron.
Perron said four or five officers responded to a call at 1:50 a.m. over a large fight in the club. As the officers entered the dance floor and began separating the crowd, Sosimi allegedly resisted and attacked the officer. The remaining officers subdued the man and detained him.

The officer was treated on the scene for minor injuries, Perron said, adding that privacy standards prevents the department from commenting on the exact nature of the wounds.
Sosimi also needed medical attention, but not from the altercation with police. Perron said club security had already pepper-sprayed Sosimi before police arrived. Palo Alto Fire Department paramedics treated Sosimi on the scene before he was transported to the Santa Clara County Main Jail, Perron said.

Los Altos police and the Stanford Department of Public Safety helped Palo Alto officers during the incident, he said.
