A black vehicle drove by and fired a round of bullets at the car.

A 23-year-old man was hit by gunfire from a passing car while he was sitting in a parked car in East Palo Alto late Friday night, East Palo Alto police said.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Alberni Street for a report of a shooting around 11:45 p.m., police said.

Arriving officers found the 23-year-old East Palo Alto resident suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body, according to police.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment where he was listed in stable condition.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said the victim was sitting in a parked vehicle with some friends when a black or dark colored car drove by and one person in that car shot at the parked vehicle, police said.

A round of bullets was fired, with one striking the victim, police said.

The shooters got away and remain at large, police said.
