Man Suffers Life-threatening Wounds in East Palo Alto Shooting

No arrests have been made in the shooting.


A Palo Alto man was shot and seriously injured Sunday afternoon while driving in East Palo Alto, according to police.

The shooting was picked up by ShotSpotter activation in the area of University Avenue and Kavanaugh Drive shortly before 2 p.m., according to Detective Rod Tuason.

Police arriving at the scene were directed to University Avenue and Crescent Street in Palo Alto, where they found the victim, a 26-year-old Palo Alto man, and his vehicle.

The victim had a single, life-threatening gunshot wound, and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable but critical condition, Tuason said.

Investigators believe the victim and a friend were driving on University Avenue when a gunman began shooting at the moving vehicle, Tuason said.

The suspect fled and has not been located. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
