MV Woman ID'd in Wednesday Crash near Foothill and Arastradero

The cause of the solo car crash is unknown, but first responders said she may have suffered a heart attack before or after the collision with a tree.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified an
elderly woman who died after driving off the road and into a tree in Palo Alto on Wednesday afternoon as Claire Silberman.

Silberman, 93, of Mountain View, died shortly after 2 p.m.
Wednesday when, for unknown reasons, she drove off the roadway near the intersection of Foothill Expressway and Arastradero Road and crashed into a tree, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Palo Alto Fire Battalion Chief Chris Woodard said firefighters who responded to assist detected a change in Silberman's heart rhythm. She might have suffered a heart attack, either prior to or after the crash, Woodard said.
