No Injuries in Weekend Fire

Fire likely started by chemicals in wood and model shop.

The Palo Alto Fire Department responded Saturday to a fire in a mechanical engineering building at 447 Santa Teresa St. that investigators believe was sparked by curing epoxies and resins.

The alarm, which initially came in as a house fire at 9:54 p.m., was called in by a resident who said the building was full of smoke. It prompted a large response, including three engines, a ladder truck, medics and a battalion chief. The building was unoccupied and no one was injured. Exact damage has not been determined.

Firefighters located the minor blaze in a wood and model shop and extinguished it within 20 minutes. Investigators believe that the epoxies and resins in a project on a workbench could be the cause of the fire.
