Obituary: Aris, Beloved Police K-9, Dies of Cancer

A Palo Alto Police canine dies after seven years of service.

Aris, a K-9 who served the Palo Alto Police Department for seven years, died of cancer on June 13, 2013. He was 9 years old.

Aris' cancer was diagnosed only a few weeks ago and despite undergoing surgery he passed away, the PAPD Facebook page reported.

At his retirement, along with his handler Agent Tony Becker, Aris received a resolution from the Palo Alto City Council in September 2012. After retirement, Aris lived with Becker and his family. Becker continued to work in the patrol division.

During his time on the force Aris assisted in the arrest of dozens of criminals. For his work, Aris and Becker received the Award of Valor from the Peninsula Lions Club in 2007 after the team helped apprehend an attempted murder suspect.
