One Death at Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve in Palo Alto

One confirmed death and two critical injuries reported at Palo Alto nature area on Thursday morning.

One person was killed when a pick-up with seven passengers drove into the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve on Thursday morning.

The vehicle was transporting park crew members to kill weeds, according to a California Highway Patrol report. The incident was first reported at 11:26 a.m.

One person has been confirmed dead, while two are in critical condition at the Stanford Medical Center, where they were transported by hospital. Three passengers suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP report, while only one was unharmed.

CHP officers are investigating what caused the vehicle to go off the dirt road. Because of its remote location, emergency crews had to travel by foot and horseback to reach the victims.
