Palo Alto Group Calls for Donations to Help Family of Young Shooting Victim

Mothers Against Murder seeks donations for the family of David Benavidez, 18, who was shot and killed last weekend.

A Palo Alto nonprofit is seeking donations to benefit the family of a Milpitas man who was shot and killed last weekend.

David Benavidez, 18, was found shot and killed Saturday Oct. 16 shortly after 1 a.m. on the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Milpitas. He was the city's second homicide this year.

The Palo Alto-based nonprofit Mothers Against Murder, a group dedicated to helping the families of murder victims, has issued a call for donations to benefit Benavidez's family, which is struggling to come up with the $8,000 needed for funeral and burial costs, said Margaret Petros, the group's executive director.

Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo bank to David Benavidez's memorial account, #6582166002. Mothers Against Murder has verified that Benavidez's mother is the only beneficiary of the account, Petros said.

No arrests have been made yet in the case.

"I am confident that Milpitas police will find the person who committed this crime to bring justice to the Benavidez family," Petros said.
