Police: Governor Appoints Department Director to 9-1-1 Advisory Board

Palo Alto Police Technical Services Director Charles Cullen to advise public safety agencies statewide.

Palo Alto continues to impress—but this time it's not the companies getting the attention.

Charles Cullen, technical services director of the Palo Alto Police Department, has been appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to the California State 9-1-1 Advisory Board.

During his two-year term, Cullen and nine other people—all from public safety agencies—will work to improve communications between various local, county and the state's 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Office. The advisory board will also develop training standards and create more efficiencies related to the office's budget.

Cullen has served on the PAPD since 1997, first working as a dispatcher. He then became the lead public safety dispatcher and communications manager. He became the Technical Services Director in 2008.

As part of this board, Cullen will attend monthly meetings in Sacramento while maintaining his job at the Palo Alto Police Department.

He was appointed on May 30, 2013.
