Palo Alto Police Offer Hot Weather Crime-Prevention Reminder

While this week's Bay Area heat wave will prompt many to fling open windows and doors to cool off, Palo Alto police are cautioning residents to be sure to close up and lock up when they leave home.

Police say windows and doors left open for ventilation can make homes prime targets for residential burglaries.

"Coming into a warm house is far better than coming into a cool house and discovering that you've become a burglary victim," police said in a statement.
