Palo Alto Police Plan for Super Bowl

Are you making big plans for Super Bowl Sunday? A party, or perhaps grab a few beers at a sports bar? Who's your designated driver?

A few lucky locals are making the trek to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. The rest of us will have to settle for hosting or attending parties, or make plans to meet-up with family or friends at restaurants or sports bars.

Before you ever leave home, have a firm plan about who will be the designated driver.

While Palo Alto Police aren’t out to trap anyone—no checkpoints are planned—patrol officers will be looking for drunk drivers. Lt. Zachary Perron, PAPD Investigative Services Division Manager, said “We’d like to urge everyone to celebrate responsibly. If you’re attending a Super Bowl party, please designate a non-drinking driver, or be prepared to call a non-drinking friend, relative, or a taxi to get you home safely. Few things will ruin a 49ers victory celebration more than a DUI arrest or an injury accident caused by an intoxicated driver.”

Perron says the department is not expecting any problems Sunday. No extra officers have been scheduled. However, if there’s any trouble, officers from the day shift can be held over to keep Palo Alto safe.
