Police Nab Suspect After Residential Manhunt

Palo Alto police arrested a wanted East Palo Alto man on Thursday night with the help of police dogs after he tried to evade arrest for about three hours by jumping through the backyards of homes.

Tyrell Walker was arrested at about 8 p.m., three hours after a woman called police and said that Walker called her several times in violation of a court order and was trying to physically locate her, according to police.

She alleged that Walker criminally threatened her and that she feared for her safety, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a restraining order violation in the area of Colorado Avenue and Middlefield Road around 4:45 p.m.

They located Walker in the area but when they approached him, he turned and ran away, police said.

Walker led officers on a foot chase as he climbed into the yards of homes west of Middlefield Road.

Four police dogs - two from Palo Alto, one from Los Altos, and another from Sunnyvale -- were used to search for Walker.

At one point Walker emerged from a yard in the 2700 block of Kipling Avenue, but refused to stop for officers, police said.

Then at about 8 p.m., a Palo Alto K9 team found Walker in a backyard in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue. Once again, he tried to flee as officers attempted to arrest him, but was stopped by a police dog.

Walker was booked into Santa Clara County Jail after receiving medical treatment for minor injuries.

He was booked on charges of resisting arrest, making criminal threats, and a restraining order violation, in addition to an unrelated outstanding felony warrant for auto theft, criminal threats, dissuading a witness, vandalism, hit-and-run, and a court order violation.
