Police Warn of Heavy Bike Traffic Friday Night

The famed and popular San Jose Bike Party rolls through Palo Alto with hundreds of bicyclists on Friday night and police recommend avoiding certain areas after 8 p.m.

It's a party on wheels and it's rolling to a neighborhood near you.

The Palo Alto Police Department advices residents and visitors to beware of heavy traffic as several hundred to several thousand bicyclists with San Jose Bike Party travel through the city on Friday between 8 p.m. and midnight.

The PAPD believes the route to be the following:

  • North from Mountain View on Middlefield Road
  • To westbound Oregon Expressway
  • To northbound Alma Street
  • To westbound University Avenue, and
  • Onto the Oval on the Stanford University campus

As they depart from campus, the police anticipates they'll take University Avenue eastbound through downtown and then Middlefield Road south back into Mountain View.

Needless to say, that drivers and pedestrians will need to have some patience.

The San Jose Bike Party will travel through the cities of Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto before turning around on the Stanford University campus.
This group conducts monthly rides in Santa Clara County, and comes through Palo Alto once or twice a year.

A recorded AlertSCC telephone message will also be sent with this information to all households in Palo Alto tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
