Recology San Mateo County Gives $1K to Local Police Activities Leagues

The money donated will provide toys not only during the holidays, but throughout the year to San Mateo County children who are victims of tragic events.

Recology San Mateo County on Monday gave a check for more than $1,000 to local police activities leagues.

The employee owners of Recology San Mateo County chose the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League and the Redwood City Police Activities League Toy and Book Drive as the beneficiary of this year's Employee Owner Charity Giving Program, Recology officials said.

Each year during the holidays, Recology San Mateo County asks its employees to help an organization within the community that benefits the residents of the community in a positive way.

They ask employees to give whatever they can, from emptying their pockets of loose change to any monetary dollar amount they can spare.

The check donated to the police activities leagues' on Monday totaled $1,073.

The San Mateo County-Redwood City Toy and Book Drive provides toys not only during the holidays, but throughout the year to children who are victims of tragic events.

The toys and stuffed animals are used to bring some sense of security to children in difficult times.

The San Mateo County-Redwood City Holiday Toy and Book Drive is a cooperative effort that is orchestrated by members of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Activities League, CARON program, Redwood City Police Department, Redwood City Fire Department, Redwood City Police Activities League, Redwood City Parks Recreation and Community Services, San Carlos Fire Department and Woodside Fire Department.

This effort brings the holiday spirit right to the doorstep of many needy families. With help from the Fair Oaks Community Center and a corps of volunteers, this annual event has become a tradition in the Redwood City community and now other areas of San Mateo County.
