Palo Alto police have launched a hate crime investigation after receiving a report from a Palo Alto boy who says he found an anti-Semitic message scratched into the hood of his car.

Palo Alto Patch was tipped to the story by a concerned reader who forwarded the image depicted here. Part of the image has been edited to obscure offensive language.

Palo Alto Police Sergeant Kratt confirmed that a report received on Thursday, May 17 was from the same victim whose car appears in the image sent to Patch, but could not provide any further details because the investigation is ongoing, and because the victim is a juvenile.

Sgt. Kratt did say that the incident, which occurred on the 600 block of Georgia Avenue during daylight hours, does not indicate or fit within a larger hate crime trend.

“I read the daily reports every day, and I haven’t seen a hate crime case in a long time,” he said.
