$2.3 Million in El Camino Park Upgrades Heads to Council

Synthetic turf soccer field would anchor the redesigned park.

A brand new synthetic turf soccer field will be the centerpiece of a redesigned El Camino Park if the City Council approves the final park design and funding Monday night.

Work began last year that the City will use to meet the needs of residents in the event of a natural disaster, and city staff have been working on final plans for the park that will be built above the reservoir.

A synthetic turf soccer field would anchor the new El Camino Park, at a cost of $809,000, surrounded by a catchment fence costing $62,500.

A new parking lot with drop off, lighting and landscaping would be also be added, at a cost of $342,260, and picnic areas and bike racks would be installed for $25,000.

Other upgrades include a new trash enclosure, rubber mulch areas, new trees along the perimiter of the park, new pathways and lighting, and new irrigation and re-seeding of the North Grass Area.

Total cost for the upgrades is $2,275,796 million, which would come out of the Park Development Impact Fee Fund. That fund currently has a balance of $2,813,245 million.

An earlier plan for El Camino Park has called for a dog park to be included, but staff is recommending that Council defer construction of that area until an environmental assessment is completed for Stanford University’s approval and until funding is secured.

In addition to deferring construction on the dog park, staff is asking Council to sign off on the final design for El Camino Park, including the dog park, and to agree on the cost.
