Caltrain to Keep 86-Train Schedule

Fares and parking fees to increase July 1.

The Caltrain Board of Directors voted Thursday to preserve its 86-train schedule. The approved resolution includes a 25¢ increase to the base fare. Daily parking fees will go up $1. Monthly parking fees will go up $10. The changes will take effect July 1.

The plan requires additional approval from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and the San Mateo County Transit District.

The vote was not unanimous. Out of the eight directors, Chairman Sean Elsbernd, Vice Chairman Omar Ahmad and Jose Cisneros voted against plan. They expressed concern that the plan is not sustainable and is a patched-together solution that addresses only the next fiscal year, according to Christine Dunn, Caltrain public information officer.
