Council to Vote on AT&T Equipment Installation
The controversial issue takes center stage at tonight's city council meeting.
The city council will vote Monday on whether to allow the installation of cell phone equipment atop 20 different Palo Alto utility poles.
The equipment, designed to improve cell phone reception in the city, would be the first of the company's long-term goal of 80 locations. The city's Architectural Review Board of the equipment installation.
Ten of 30 public speakers at the December ARB meeting supported the project, while 20 did not. According to a council staff report, detractors of the project worried about decreasing property values, possible health risks, the use of outdated technology, and the potential of the equipment to be an eyesore.
