Cubberley Community Center's Future on Docket Tonight

The Palo Alto City Council will likely adopt guiding principles and confirm appointments to the Community Advisory Committee at its meeting tonight.

Palo Alto councilmembers will be discussing plans for the Cubberley Community Center at their meeting tonight.

For decades, the Palo Alto Unified School District has leased the property to the city for use as a community center, and that lease expires in 2014. District officials have told the city that enrollment is growing and they may need part of the center to house students in a few years.

A timeline was anticipated achieving a group consensus on a vision for the future of the Cubberley site one year prior to the city’s current lease expiration in 2014. The  process included by the end of 2013 (forming three groups: the Technical Advisory Committee made up of top executive staff of the School District and the City; a Community Advisory Committee to be appointed
jointly by the City Manager (with recommendations from the School
Superintendent); and a Policy Advisory Committee composed of three
Councilmembers (Yeh, Shepherd and Klein) and two School Board members
(Mitchell and Townsend).
