Governor Appoints Local Democrat to Superior Court

Appointment follows resignation of Judge Eugene M. Hyman.

Governor Jerry Brown Tuesday announced the appointment of Shelyna V. Brown to the position of Santa Clara County Superior Court judge.

Brown, 41, of San Jose, was a public defender in Santa Clara County since 1997. She earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.A. from U.C. Davis. Her appointment follows the retirement of Judge Eugene M. Hyman, also a Democrat.

Brown will earn $178,789 in her new position.
