Kiosk Honoring Palo Alto Sister Cities Unveiled

Post pays tribute to City's partners abroad.

A signpost honoring Palo Alto’s six Sister Cities debuted Monday in Martin Luther King Jr. plaza at City Hall.

The kiosk displays the name of each city, as well as its distance from Palo Alto, a description of its special character, and the year its relationship with Palo Alto began.

The cities include Palo, the Philippines, Oaxaca, Mexico, Enschede, the Netherlands, Linkoping, Sweden, Albi, France and Tsuchiura, Japan, where Palo Alto Mayor Yiaway Yeh is currently on an official visit.

The City’s ties to its Sister Cities are managed by Neighbors Abroad and Members of the Rotary Club. The two groups funded the kiosk and attended its unveiling along with city representatives.

Rotary’s Le Levy was master of ceremonies, and Chesley Douglas, Jr. led the effort to publicly acknowledge the Sister Cities.

Joe Evans, co-president of Neighbors Abroad, thanked Rotary for their contribution.

“This is a special way to honor the fiftieth anniversary of Palo Alto’s becoming a Sister City, which we’ll be marking next year,” said Evans.
