Local Help in Superstorm Sandy Aftermath

To help already overwhelmed local resources, the 129th Rescue Wing deployed Monday to help in rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, their Facebook page announced.

Stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View, the 129th has sent 100 California Air National Guardsmen, two MC-130P Combat Shadow aircraft, two HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters and two Guardian Angel Pararescue teams mobilized to provide life-saving rescue capabilities to those in need.

Television and still-photography images show the devastation caused by a combination of flooding, wind and in some cases fire. Millions of people have been evacuated.

The Silicon Valley American Red Cross has also sent volunteers, including Rada Ford of Mountain View, to help with shelter operations and assisting client services identify those in need.
