Lytton Plaza 'Sandy' Vigil Is Call for Climate Action

About 50 citizens gathered for a candlelight vigil in Palo Alto Tuesday evening -- on the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy -- to raise awareness of the disastrous results that they attribute to climate change.
The Palo Alto event, held in Lytton Plaza, was one of several organized around the country to mark Oct. 29 as a national day of action.
"Since Sandy, we've seen harsh droughts, historical wildfires, powerful storms and significant flooding," said Josh Wolf of Organizing for Action.
"Climate change contributes to these kinds of extreme weather that are devastating communities across the country with increasing frequency and greater intensity."
And while communities and the country show great resilience and rally to rebuild after these events, changes need to occur now, he said.
"Rather than coming together in the aftermath of ruin,"Wolf said, "it's time to unify around solutions to combat climate change and help lessen the effects of future storms."
Joining Tuesday's vigil were representatives from Organizing for Action, 350 Silicon Valley, Acterra, Citizens Climate Lobby and the Universalist Unitarian Church of Palo Alto Green Sanctuary Committee.
