Meet Your DNC Delegate: Carolyn Curtis

Curtis has been an Obama organizer since early in his 2008 campaign.

Palo Alto Patch is committed to in-depth coverage of the 2012 elections, from the local school board to the presidential race.

Republicans and Democrats will hold their national conventions over the next few weeks. The GOP will take center stage next week as the Republican National Convention is held in Tampa. Democrats will converge on Charlotte the following week.

We contacted our local delegates to both conventions and asked them an identical set of questions. For fairness, we are publishing them side-by-side.

Carolyn Curtis is a delegate to the DNC.

How did you become a delegate for the Democratic National Convention?
Elected at the 18th (old 14th) congressional district (CD) delegate election caucus April 29; came in first in our district

Why did you want to become one?
Have wanted to since becoming very active in Democratic politics several decades ago. I ran in 2004 but my candidate didn’t break the threshold so none of his delegates went; in 2008 I worked to send local delegates who had worked for Obama from the beginning.

What are you doing to prepare for the Convention?
Going through all the requirements: paperwork, advance payments, logistics, etc.; keeping up with presidential campaign news; continuing work on campaigns (presidential, congressional, local).

What do you hope to take away from the Convention?
More energy & hope, though my levels of those are already pretty high; also inspiring and fun anecdotes to share.

Who are you most looking forward to rubbing elbows with?
Howard & Jim Dean; delegates from other states.

What important issues do you want to address with other delegates at the Convention?
Clean Money legislation.

How important is it to represent your community at the Convention?
Will be an honor, though all nine 18th CD delegates represent the whole CD.
