Palo Alto Voter Turnout: 57 Percent

Nationwide, voter turnout is down from 2008.

The unofficial vote count is complete in Palo Alto. According to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters, 25,516 people cast votes in the Palo Alto Unified School District election, while 21,949 people voted for city council members.

In each race, the turnout was 57 percent.

A check of polling places Tuesday found large numbers of residents dropping off absentee ballots. Still, plenty of people showed up with sample ballots in hand, preferring the experience of voting on election day.
