PG&E Venting Gas Friday in Palo Alto, Stanford and Menlo Park

Pacific Gas & Electric will vent natural gas on Friday in Palo Alto, Stanford and Menlo Park.

The extraction begins at 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. in short bursts, according to PG&E. The gas may be pungent and detectable shortly after the release of strange noises, PG&E officials warned.

"Like skunk or rotten eggs," a City of Palo Alto statement explained.

The locations where crews plan to release the gas include:

  • Sand Hill Road and Branner Drive
  • Junipero Serra Blvd, north of Santa Maria
  • Foothill Expressway, South of Page Mill Road
  • Miranda Avenue and Loop Road
The purge of the gas aims to facilitate the installation of enhanced pipelines. If not, the pressure in the pipes could lead to dangerous conditions for the workers. You can read more about the projects in Patch's previous coverage
