San Mateo County to Host Anonymous Gun Buyback

Cash will be given in exchange for weapons.

UPDATE, 5:20 P.M. - Local Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo), whose office is helping fund the cash back people can receive at this event, said the event will be anonymous.

"Any individual can surrender weapons, no questions asked," the Congresswoman said.

"Fewer guns mean fewers accidents and fewer chances for guns to fall into the wrong hands.”

In an effort to crack down on local violence following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shoooting last month, San Mateo County is holding a gun buyback event at the county event center.

At the event, gun owners will receive $100 per handgun, shotgun and rifle and $200 for assault weapons as classified in the state of California.

The event is a joint effort of the Sheriff’s Office, Supervisor Adrienne Tissier and the office of U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, who is providing the funding for the buyback, the Daily Journal reported.

The county last held a buyback 10 to 12 years ago at Coyote Point in conjunction with the San Francisco Giants, San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks said. Instead of cash, guns were traded for tickets.

The gun buyback is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at the San Mateo County Event Center, 2495 S. Delaware St., San Mateo. For more information call 257-3503 ext. 9. Please transport unloaded firearms in the trunk of a vehicle.

An assault weapon doesn't exist. Its a made up term by gun grabber Leftists like Jackie Speer, Diane Feinstein and all the other brown shirt liberals. In their world they think taking guns ends violence, when in reality only the criminals will be better armed. Look at NY, dumbass Cuomo's 7 round limit has law enforcement now at a disadvantage since criminals don't follow laws. Thats the whole point missed on these politicians who's only real goal is POWER AND CONTROL.

Shorter: Assault weapon = anything. A rock, bat, pipe, or "evil" looking gun.

A bigger difference would be had if criminals had stiffer penalties and less revolving door sentences. That, and citizens should not be treated like criminals, and should be allowed to carry with a concealed permit. This would stop much crime as shown in CCW states, and statistics prove Gun control causes MORE Crime like in Chicago and other places I could point to. Fact, murders are at their lowest rate in years. Citing "mass" shootings is just pure emotional argument used to disarm responsible gun owners. If Obama was so "concerned" he would have paid attention to all the homocides in Chicago last year...or the year before or the year before. Demagogue, divide, and distract. Thats all this witch hunt is. Little facts, or rational, practical solutions.

By GangBangers or the Mentally Ill. Or a combined list? I think you need to be more specific.
