Funding for Carpool Lanes on I-880 to San Jose

The California Transportation Commission on Wednesday agreed to give $200 million for local transportation projects.

If you live or work in the South Bay, you can expect to see an increase in construction activity during your commute in the not-too-distant future.

The California Transportation Commission on Wednesday agreed to set aside $40 million for the BART line from Fremont to San Jose, $71.6 million for the carpool lanes on Interstate 880 between Milpitas and San Jose and $84.9 million for merging lanes on Highway 101 from Palo Alto to Mountain View, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The article reports that construction on BART and the two freeways could begin as early as next year. Even though the funding for the roadwork was contingent on selling state bonds, Sacramento decided it didn’t need to wait.
