U.S. Commerce Secretary Making First Trip to Silicon Valley

By Bay City News Service:

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker is scheduled to make her first trip to Silicon Valley Monday to talk about economic innovation at a tech startup center in Sunnyvale, commerce officials said.

Pritzker became secretary on June 26 after working in real estate, hospitality, senior living and financial services, according to the Department of Commerce.

She will discuss the Obama Administration's support of the "innovation economy" at 12:15 p.m. today at the Plug and Play Tech center, a facility for startups and investors in Sunnyvale.

After her remarks, Pritzker will have an open conversation and question-and-answer session with Jeff Weiner, the chief executive officer of the social networking firm LinkedIn, Department of Commerce officials said.

The Churchill Club is sponsoring the invitation-only event in partnership with FWD.us, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, TechAmerica and TechNet, officials said.
