Virus Alert! Ignore Bogus 'Superior Court' Emails
Court officials warn of phishing email containing virus and referring to court appearance.
San Francisco Superior Court officials are advising recipients of a scam email purportedly sent from the court today to ignore the message and not open any attachments.
An email from "Elizabeth Tailor" who is identified in the hoax missive as "the Clerk to the Court" has been sent out telling recipients to attend a Jan. 14, 2014, hearing at 11 a.m.
Court officials said there are no court employees named "Elizabeth Tailor."
The email says to bring important documents to the court date and asks them to open an attachment, which is purportedly a copy of the court notice that needs to be read carefully, according to court officials.
Calls and emails have been coming into the court today about the apparently bogus message, and one recipient told court officials that when she tried to open the attachment her computer's security software identified it as malicious.
Additionally, the court never notifies anyone about court appearances via email, according to officials. The court advises all recipients of the phishing email to delete it and not open its attachments.
