On Tuesday, the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors unanimously elected District 5 representative, Nai Hsueh, to serve as board chair in 2013. Director Tony Estremera, representing District 6, was elected vice chair.
In her opening address, Chair Hsueh, expressed her gratitude to her fellow board members, district management and staff for the warm welcome to the board she has received. She also acknowledged the board’s successes in 2012.

“Your leadership, hard work and accomplishments for 2012 are evident in many areas such as Measure B, the HCP [Santa Clara Valley Habitat Conservation Plan], capital projects, and fluoridation, just to name a few,” said Hsueh.
Hsueh then presented her goals for the year. “I am honored and excited to be the 2013 chair. My goal for this year is to work with my fellow board members in leading the water district to be a regional model for an ethical, transparent and effective organization. Building upon the recent progress already made by the board, I am confident this goal can be achieved in the near future.”

Chair Hsueh was elected in November 2012 to represent District 5, which includes the cities of Saratoga and Cupertino, and parts of Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and west San José.
District 6 director, Tony Estremera, is serving as the vice chair for 2012. Estremera began his tenure on the district board in 1996, and served as the board chair in 2001 and 2007.
Outgoing chairperson, Linda J. LeZotte reflected on her year at the helm and the five key priorities she set forth at the beginning of the year. Her five key priorities were energy management, illegal encampments in our waterways, fluoridation, fiscal oversight and the completion of two habitat conservation plans. “We have made excellent progress on those. I’m really proud of what we’ve all accomplished.”
Presented with a framed poster commemorating her year as chair, LeZotte thanked her fellow board members for their assistance in making significant progress on all the priorities she had set forth, achieving many accomplishments and making her turn as chair “civilized and very thoughtful.”
The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 1.8 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses throughout Santa Clara County.
