Season of our Joy

The Oshman Family JCC warmly invites the entire community to share in our free Sukkot at the Midrahov celebration this Friday, September 28 from 4:00-7:00 PM.

The Jewish Festival of Sukkot is a week-long joyous holiday that celebrates the season of harvest and is most noted for the custom of building and eating in sukkot (huts or booths). Referred to as “z’man simchateinu,” or “the season of our joy,” it is a time to celebrate and rejoice. The sukkah commemorates the temporary dwellings that the Israelites lived in during their years of wandering through the desert, as well as the harvest huts that they lived in as farmers once they reached the Land of Israel.

For those who build sukkot in their yards and balconies, it’s customary to invite guests – both real ones and symbolic ones (referred to as ushpizin) – to join them in their sukkah.

The OFJCC warmly invites the entire community to share in our free Sukkot at the Midrahov celebration this Friday, September 28 from 4:00-7:00 PM. We’ll have a sukkah building contest, a treasure hunt, music, art, food and lots of fun cultural events for people of all ages to experience and try. We hope to see you there!
