Humanist Community in Silicon Valley Sunday Morning Forum: Questioning the Historicity of Christ
Why would anyone think Jesus never existed? Most secular thinkers reject the supernatural elements of the traditions surrounding Jesus Christ, and accept that he was an actual first century figure. But is it possible that even that modest stance is untrue? Historical writer Dave Fitzgerald, author of Nailed: Ten Christian Myths That Show Jesus Never Existed at All thinks so. He draws upon evidence gathered from historians across the theological spectrum to show how the New Testament itself points to a Jesus created solely through the allegorical alchemy of hope and imagination – a messiah transformed from a purely literary, theological construct into the familiar figure of Jesus – in short, a purely mythic Christ.
