Lecture by Nicholas Dirks (Anthropology and History, Columbia University)
Nicholas B.Dirks is the Franz Boas Professor of Anthropology and Professor of History at Columbia University. He is also Vice President for Arts and Sciences and Dean of that same faculty. Professor Dirks is the author of numerous books and articles on South Asian history and culture. His major books are: The Hollow Crown. Ethnohistory of an Indian Kingdom (Cambridge University Press 1988); Castes of Mind. Colonialism and the Making of Modern India (Princeton University Press 2001); and The Scandal of Empire. India and the Making of Imperial Britain (Harvard University Press 2006)
