Tony Blair Coming to Stanford, Protest Planned

Stanford students will greet the former British Prime Minister with a demonstration against his support of the Iraq War.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will give a talk at Stanford University today on development in Africa, and several student groups are planning to protest his appearance.

The speech, titled "A New Approach for a New Africa," is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Cemex Auditorium at the Graduate School of Business. The talk is not open to the public.

The protesters will include members of the student groups Occupy Stanford and Stanford Says No to War, according to Joshua Schott, president of the latter group.

Schott, an anthropology major, said he and his fellow protesters blame Blair and the Bush administration for the Iraq War, which he called illegal.

"He should be arrested and tried for war crimes," Schott said of
Blair.
