Photo Show: Silicon Valley Volunteers Build School Playground

Parents, teachers, area employees raised $8K and constructed the playspace last week at Cesar Chavez Academy.

Some 300 parents, teachers and community supporters, many from Silicon Valley firms Adobe Systems Inc. and SAP, joined together last week to construct a new playground for the Cesar Chavez Academy.

Along with organizers from KaBOOM!, a national not-for-profit dedicating to creating outdoor spaces for kids, the volunteers constructed the East Palo Alto school's playspace based on drawings the students created in August.

The dedicated school-community volunteers raised $8,500 in funds for the project, and the months-long effort culminated with construction Thursday.

And now that the concrete has set and dried, the playground is officially open -- for play -- today.
